Milan house-museum network: an interesting discovery

Milan is known as the capital of fashion and finance, but people tend to forget that it also boasts a remarkable cultural heritage. An example worth mentioning is the network of house-museums of the city. The many passers-by that daily walk across the city centre are often unaware of the artistic gems hidden behind the façades of the incredible historical buildings.
The complex is composed by four private buildings donated by their owners, so that everyone could benefit from their beauty: the house-museum of the noble family Poldi Pezzoli, the house of the brothers Bagatti Valsecchi, the house of Mr. and Ms. Boschi Di Stefano and the villa of the industrialists Necchi Campiglio.
What all these personalities have in common is that they collected and handed down from generation to generation pieces of art, historical artifacts, tapestries and unique sculptures, all perfectly preserved in their mansions.
The heirs decided to donate their properties to the Milan municipality, so that the heritage of the city could be largely known and appreciated and, at the meantime, in order to narrate the story of those who belonged to the high society of that time through the exhibited objects. In 2008 the House-museum network was created thanks to the support of Regione Lombardia, Provincia di Milano, Comune di Milano and Fondazione Cariplo. If you happen to be in the vicinity of Porta Venezia and the Quadrilatero della Moda, Milan’s Golden Quarter, don’t miss the opportunity to discover this hidden side of Milan.
